Does It Matter If You Use Synthetic or Conventional Oil?

Synthetic oil? Conventional oil? If you are a new driver or have never thought about it, you might think that you need to be a mechanic to understand the difference. That's not true, though. Some of the basic distinctions are actually quite simple to explain.

Put simply, synthetic oil consists of entirely man-made materials that were produced in a lab. Conventional oil, on the other hand, is made of a blend. Natural oil is the base in what is called conventional oil, but synthetic materials are added to the natural oil.

Some drivers might be wondering what kind oil they should ask the mechanic to put in their vehicle at their next oil change. "Does it matter?" you might ask. Generally speaking, synthetic oil is used in many vehicles because it offers better lubrication, but there are instances in which a vehicle might actually perform better.

If you want to discuss the difference between these two types of oils, come to Lithia Chrysler Jeep Dodge of Missoula in Missoula, MT and one of our mechanics will be happy to help you better understand your choices in oil.
